Shea butter

Shea butter, which comes from the African shea nut of the karite tree, contains a high proportion of phytosterols which are also a component of the human membrane lipids.

The karite tree is difficult to cultivate. New plants are often the result of accidental germination. The tree blooms starting from age 20 and reaches its full profitability at age 50. In botanical terms, the fruits of the karite tree are actually berries. The stones they contain, i.e. shea nuts, measure about 4 cm and contain approximately 50% fat.
